George Baugh, Age 33

George was born in Dawley in 1881 and was the son of Thomas & Emma Baugh, by 1891 Emma was a widow, working as a charwoman and with her two children George & Elizabeth was reduced to begging on the street. They were listed as living in the Elephant & Castle buildings at the top of the High Street.
By 1901 George was living with his now married sister at Woodhouse Lane whilst working as a coal miner, not long afterwards George enlisted into the army serving with the A.S.C and at some point after his discharge he moved to Hednesford and in early 1914 married Annie Tudge at Cannock, setting up home at 131 Clifton Terrace, Littleworth.
George was still on the reserve list when war broke out and was called back to the colours on 5th August 1914 being sent to France on October 5th of that year. After George had been called up, Annie gave birth to their son in September, but sadly George never saw his son as his body was found in the River Lys at Merville in April 1915
George is buried in the Merville cemetery, Grave reference II.N.9
